The beams of pinkish energy had transformed Cassie, mutating her into an alien-female hybrid just like the other two high school girls. The major difference was the other two girls didn't also have potent, but largely unfocused magical powers. Alien thoughts were whispering at the corners of Cassie's distended skull, telling her to do things with those powers. To use them - - for the good of Venus! Cassie realized she was losing the battle. Her sense of self was strong, but there was an entire spaceship full of alien minds hammering at her defenses. It took a enormous act of will just to not experimentally blast one of the mall's supporting pillars. Inquiring minds aboard the ship wanted to know what she was capable of. The alien thoughts were getting louder. Grunting with effort, Cassie managed to divert the blast at the last second. It destroyed a relatively unimportant "you-are-here" map kiosk instead of the nearby architectural support. This last supreme effort to spare the mall's shoppers from an avalanche of metal, stone, and timber expended the last of Cassie's reserves. She was helpless in the all-powerful mental grip of the Venusian hive-mind. She surrendered, feeling innumerable mental contacts rifle through her memories, absorbing all she knew of potions and grimoires and spellcasting and even her fury-born firebolts. A communal purr of pleasure from the hive-mind whispered in Cassie's pointed ears. "Yes, you will do.
